My goal was to have the first production amp ready by May 1st. And this is what it looked like last night. Pretty pleased, if I might say so. Serial numbers 00002-00005 should be ready this week, and then it's time to get this show on the road!
The past few months have been a whirlwind of building, researching, building again, and finding the right partners to help make this dream a reality. That having been said - we're in the home stretch. Electronics start to look good, outer shell is starting to look how I want them to look, important decisions like "what type of knobs?" have been made by the hive mind. Now, it's a matter of assembly, testing, and starting to get the Film Noir 50 into the hands of some of the most demanding guitar players out there. The next couple of weeks will be busy, but I'm excited about starting to see and hear them being used!
Before coming up Serial number -0001 was a kit amp. Nothing too fancy, but a great way to get my feet wet in the intricacies of what really needs to be "solved" before putting together a tube guitar amplifier.
After that, the vision became clearer. A simple design: a solid clean, a great distortion, and no bells and whistles unless they serve the touring discerning guitar player. The inner works were in good shape, but aesthetics still needed some extra work. That resulted in serial number 0000 - the first one that I built from scratch.
So now I'm about to get into real manufacturing. One design, repeated multiple times. It's out with the flexibility, and in with the rigidity of design, tone, and quality control. I can't wait.
